Happy kid=Happy mom...

The past few days have sucked... flat out. So yesterday I decided to do something with jackson that my brother and I use to do every year as kids, Something that I loved doing and that made me happy. We made/started his Christmas list. When I was a kid my mom use to hand us a few pieces of legal pad paper, glue, scissors and the toys R us catalog. We cut out pictures of toys we wished for for Christmas, gave her our "Christmas list" and she "sent it to Santa"! It was her shopping guide...
We had a ton of fun doing this, he has been carrying his list around ever since =)

Deciding what to cut out...

He wanted stickers..

Checking out the inside...

I put a regular list on the back, for those times when he's yelling directly at the tv, but sceaming at me..."mama, mama, I want that, can we get that, can we please get it???" Now he can write it down!

So proud and excited!

First stitches...

We had our first facial laceration worthy of stitches on Saturday. C.J. was building a dog run in the back yard and I was doing random house chores, laundry, dishes etc. etc... Jackson has a lovely cough and was still in his jammies at this point. When the kid has and kind of cold meds he is off the wall bonkers. Of course I'm bickering with him most of the morning about "resting" so he can feel better... That to a four year old means nothing. I walk out of the living room and my foot doesn't even clear the baby gate when I hear the distinct noise... His head and the coffee table, the table won for sure. He didn't cry, he said "Oh man that one hurt". He removes his hand from his head and the blood is gushing, he is then hysterical. So off to the ER we go....

Fresh wound...

He stopped crying long enough to fake a smile... I think this picture is hilarious.

In the ER with numbing cream, waiting to be sewn up...
Check out the boots C.J. Grabbed in a panic, They were a hit!

At first I didn't think it was too bad... But it took 5 stitches that aren't disolveable... BOO!

Where does a four year old get such an attitude?...

Jackson has been on a big "I'm friends with him but not with her" Kick. I think the pre-school politics are alive and well. I told him that he should be friends with everyone because having a ton of friends is better and "cooler" (my choice words) than making other kids sad... Is it bad that I also told told him that God is always watching and he better shape up? I don't think so. His attitude is is nasty on top of it all. This is whats driving me nuts, he is four not fourteen. I wonder what things I say will stick with him for life, I can still remember a few things my parents and grandparents used on my brother and I. Everyday I hope to be doing it right? doing it well?... Parenting, that is. Will I do things differently with Cooper? Who knows! I sure love my boy, he makes me want to do better everyday...

Loving fall...

Well, Loving/hating may be a better choice of words. The good things are the lovely cool weather, Costumes and Halloween festivities, and us being back into the grove with school and work. The crappy things are my damn dogs are inside a lot when it rains and this sends my OCD into a tailspin because I cant seem to keep anything "hairless"... Constant vacuuming, no bueno. C.J. got a little bit of a promotion. This is great for the bank, but HORRIBLE for me... He now has to travel A LOT. Just in the past two weeks he has been to Alaska and napa valley. He leaves for Arkansas on Monday =(... I have to just suck it up now, I didn't have much help before and now I have none at all. All I can do or what I am tying to do is be thankful for the blessings(Which is NOT easy at 6pm every night). I ask myself sometimes when will it get easier? I'm smart enough to know that it wont for a long, long while. Stay positive and stay happy, that's my main goal for our family. Looking forward to the holidays and spending more time with family and friends.

Our sweet friend Stella turned one this week! These are pics from her birthday/costume party!

I know i'm crazy...

I know I'm crazy, but we got a dog! I'm not a big "Dog person", but my cousin was going to take her to the pound because her mom said she could no longer keep her. I didn't want her to go to the pound and be put down so I said bring her over so I can see how she does with the kids and we will go from there. When she got here she barked a bit, but then calmed down and sniffed like crazy around the house. She was kept in a kennel during the days so once she got to our back yard she was in heaven! I knew that how she did with Jackson would be the deal breaker. They LOVE each other... Like two peas in a pod. She is really becoming a wonderful dog and is completely part of our family after just one day! Her name was Baby, but we are calling her Brody now (CJ would have nothing to do with a dog named baby). My hope is the B and Y sounds make it easier. Cj is looking forward to running with her, and I'm glad to have a companion when CJ goes outta town!

My life as a milk maid...

I have come to realize that once the initial pain of nursing your baby has faded, it's not as easy as they all say.

Back when I had Jackson in 2006, I gave breastfeeding a shot. It didn't last long, about six weeks. I was a younger mom, it was my first baby, and I went back to my nannying job when Jackson was just four weeks old. Between the serious lack of sleep for the first time in my life, as well as the stress of leaving my one month old with family Monday through Friday so that I could go and be with someone Else's kids, I gave up. (I also had a very long and trying birth, ending in a C-Section). Formula became my best friend and worst enemy all in the same day. It was so so easy to prepare bottles in advance and have anyone else feed him, It was my best friend. Jackson had horrible reflux and the formula was hard on his stomach and he spit up constantly, not to mention it is SO damn expensive, It was my worst enemy.

When I was pregnant with Cooper I had two main goals in mind, Avoid a C-Section at all costs and give nursing another shot. I ended up with another C-Section(thanks to my kids for jumping rope with the umbilical cord while they cook). So I kind of went off of the deep end with the idea of nursing. I had not avoided surgery and felt a bit like a failure. I felt like I HAD to do it in order to make up for my unattained goal. This might sound crazy. but i really wanted the experience of having my child enter the world how God intended him to. Now I will never have the chance, but that's another Oprah.
Lucky for me Cooper Came out Looking for the boobies. I mean I was in recovery all doped up from surgery and the nurse comes in with my baby and I hold him for the first time. Two minutes later she's telling C.J. to remove my gown so I can feed the baby! I could barely hold the kid, how did she expect me to feed him? It didn't matter, Cooper did all of the work(besides C.J. holding him for me), and that was that.

Since Cooper's birth I have been his main source of nutrition, AKA his milk maid. He and I do our thing between five and ten times in a day and sometimes just as a pacifier. I have a new found guilt that i struggle with... I want to quit. That's not the whole truth, I love the "Value" of breast milk for my baby. It's the best thing for him and it's free. I don't have to listen to C.J. bitch about how much one can of formula costs and how much "I" could save in our budget for the year. But no one ever told me about the amount of time, energy, support, and shear will it takes to breastfeed. I mean it's a constant duty that I thought would have become second nature by now. It has not. I do feel badly that I feel this way, but I'm sure there are others who share my guilt. Although we started Cooper on one formula bottle a day last week, it's not the change in routine I had hoped for. I give some serious credit to the moms out there who somehow nurse for a year or longer( I could never and would never do it for that long). I set a goal of six months and hope to get there. We are half way along and going strong. But really I wish someone would have told me that it doesn't just become easy one day, and that you really do have to work at it. To all the little babies, Cheers! To all the strong mama's, Moooooo!

Our last name...

So its a bit after 10pm and the kids are asleep! Now i can post something. Thats what i'm supposed to do right? Stay up late and rant and rave about my boring life. Weather or not its what im suppoesd to be doing, its what im going to do!
Anyhoo, over the past few months a hand full of people have asked me "why is your last name Daley and not Joiner"? They ask this because for most of his childhood through his teen years, Cj went by the last name of Joiner. So the scoop is Cj went by Joiner which is his stepdads name, his stepdad has been in his life since he was very young and his father was not a part of his life. When Cj went off to college he had to register with the name given to him on his birth certificate because he was never formally adopted by his stepdad. when we got married we had a conversation about what name he and I would take. Cj felt at that time after having a nice conversation with his stepdad, that he would keep on with Daley and that was that! Its funny because every now and again someone will call me Janel Joiner and I dont even think twice. So thats the story, just so its all clear!
(That felt very rant like, and i dont appoligize... I told you my life was boring! ha)

Hello!

Hello Family and Friends! I have finally gotten with the times and started a family blog. I have been wanting to do so for quite a while and today was the day. With that, my plan is to randomly blog about things going on with us as well as post pictures. Hopefully this is a way you all can just pop in to see whats going on with us!
As you all know we have been very busy with our new arrival, Mr. Cooper Matthew Daley was born February 1st and is a true gift to our little family. Jackson LOVES being a big brother and its been a rather smooth transition for him. C.J. and I are blessed with great kids and we look forward to watching them grow. Here's some of what we've been up to...
